About Feedwell

Feedwell is a passion project run by me, Anna Willoughby.

My very good girl, Fern Gully, was getting older, and she started limping. I took her to the vet to find out what was causing her so much pain. The diagnosis: she had too much muscle mass in her front legs, and it was causing repeated fractures, which kept healing and breaking again. I was so distraught. He recommended restricting her calories to try to bring down her weight, even though her body condition was overall pretty good. A couple months later, she was like a puppy again! Playing, jumping, full of life, where she had been so sad and listless before.

But it was a big challenge controlling her diet - with so many people who love her wanting to give her delicious treats, it was getting hard to keep track of her intake each day. I made a spreadsheet to share with my husband so he could see what each treat, each bowl of food "cost" her. That was easy enough for me to work with, but it made me realize - a lot of friends of mine are struggling with their pets weight. One friend adopted a kitten that was struggling to put on enough weight, another had a dog we lovingly call a potato that could probably stand to lose some. Maybe this simple calculator could help!

So I built it out into a web app as a proof of concept to see if it could help other pet owners with their sweet baby girls and boys. I hope it helps you too!
